Strategy
Greg Rowe and Associates were appointed as the Town Planning Consultancy to progress an urban development proposal in North Yunderup. The proposal was prepared in conjunction with the adjoining landowner to present a consolidated urban development proposal that would effectively double the size of the North Yunderup town site.
At the time that Greg Rowe and Associates were commissioned, the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) had advised that a regional planning strategy needed to be completed in order to identify the suitability of the land for urban development.
Greg Rowe and Associates was of the view that the land was suitable and capable for urban development. Our view was based on best practice town planning and urban design principles and supported by technical and environmental studies carried out by co-consultants.
Greg Rowe and Associates subsequently arranged for a community design forum to canvass local support and gain feedback from the local community.
The design forum involved community and stakeholder workshops, presentations to Council and the WAPC and the preparation of a comprehensive and visionary development concept plan to indicate to the community that our Client was genuine in developing a high quality and liveable community.
Design
As a result of the design forum, the proposal received immediate support from the Shire of Murray. The Shire subsequently agreed to initiate an amendment to their local town planning scheme to support urban development.
A request was subsequently lodged with the WA Planning Commission to rezone the subject site to an urban zoning under the Peel Region Scheme.
With the support of the Shire of Murray and the comprehensive town planning, technical and environmental information collected by Greg Rowe and Associates, the WAPC has now agreed to proceed with the urban rezoning proposal.
